Who is responsible for the executive branch?

The executive branch of the government is primarily responsible for enforcing laws and implementing policies, and this responsibility falls under the purview of the President. As the head of the executive branch, the President has the authority to direct government operations, appoint cabinet members, and manage federal agencies. This role includes overseeing the execution of federal laws, conducting foreign policy, and serving as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

While the Vice President plays an important role and can step in to fulfill duties as needed, and the Secretary of State manages foreign affairs and international relations, they serve under the President’s direction rather than leading the executive branch themselves. The Chief Justice, on the other hand, leads the judicial branch, which is separate from the executive branch's functions. Thus, the President holds the top position within the executive branch and is responsible for its overall leadership and operation.
